Permit Application Filed for Reliability Project

July 27, 2015

PRESS RELEASE - Eversource Energy and National Grid on July 21st filed a permit application with the New Hampshire Site Evaluation Committee for the Merrimack Valley Reliability Project (MVRP), a new 345-kilovolt (kV) transmission line to be constructed in an existing right-of-way from Londonderry, New Hampshire to Tewksbury, Massachusetts. Approximately 18 miles of this line will pass through the New Hampshire towns of Londonderry, Hudson, Windham and Pelham.

The MVRP is part of the Greater Boston and New Hampshire Solution. This suite of transmission projects answers an urgent need identified by New England’s independent system operator, ISO-New England, to strengthen the area’s electric system in response to forecasted load growth and aging infrastructure.

Before construction can begin, the project must receive a Certificate of Site and Facility from the New Hampshire Site Evaluation Committee (SEC). This group of officials, including two publicly appointed representatives, has up to 14 months to review the application and determine whether to issue the certificate.

Eversource and National Grid have completed an initial round of Public Information Sessions within each New Hampshire county in advance of the SEC filing and will host another round within 45 days of the SEC deeming the application to be complete. An additional public hearing will be hosted by the SEC within 90 days of that determination. These events provide an opportunity for members of the public to register questions or comments with the SEC regarding the project.
